Once a SA Railways bus service maintenance shed, the property was developed into a restaurant site in 1997. Serving the local community, the bus service travelled daily between Clarens and Bethlehem. The neighbouring business was originally the bus station. The property was sold in 1999, changed into an upmarket country dining establishment and renamed Clementines.

After 16 years in Johannesburg’s corporate world, Shelley opted for a better quality of life in Clarens. In August 2010 she relocated to Clarens, and bought Clementines. In 2013 she married Mark, in 2015 Mark joined Clementines, and the restaurant was renovated, to included a specialty bar and an outside covered gazebo, being careful to keep the authentic corrugated iron look of this beautiful old building.

Since then they have both managed the restaurant with the support of a great team of loyal staff. In 2021 they developed the upstairs wine room, which is a unique dining experience, overlooking the bar, there are 4 tables and is ideal for small private functions.

These many milestones add to the ambience and charm of this quaint and popular restaurant in
