Will Remain in Our Hearts, Forever (2010 – 2024)
You wouldn’t think that it all goes together… a restaurant… a cat… and a veterinary welfare organisation… but through our shared love of animals and the need to do something that makes a real difference, our Matchbox Project was born.
It all started after we rescued our much-loved and very well-known Clementine (the cat) from Cluny back in 2010. In her time, Clemmie as she was know to many if us, was without a shadow of a doubt a Clarens icon. She sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge on the 7th June 2024, and she will forever be missed.
Since launching out Matchbox Project in 2011, we have raised over R500 000.00 for the Cluny Animal Trust and they have put all of that money to good use, providing veterinary care to animals owned by the poor and previously disadvantaged.
The Cluny Animal Trust rely on fund-raising and donations to do their work. So, in loving memory of Clemmie, we want to keep the Matchbox Project going and to continue to raise funds to help animals in need. So, how can you help?
You will see the blue matchboxes on each table, and we ask you to please donate as much money as you can spare to the Cluny Animal Trust. Then pop your matchbox in the locked wooden box which is to the left of the door as you leave.
OR you can use the QR code on the matchbox and donate directly into their bank account.
Please do not give your matchbox to your waiter.
