About Clementines

Once a S A Railways bus service maintenance shed, the property was developed into a restaurant site in 1997. Serving the local community, the bus service travelled daily between Clarens and Bethlehem. The neighbouring Bibliophile bookstore was originally the bus station. The property was sold in 1999, changed into an upmarket country dining establishment and renamed Clementines.

After 16 years in Johannesburg's corporate world, Shelley Horton opted for a better quality of life in Clarens. In August 2010 she relocated to Clarens, bought Clementines and within the first week her positive energy was already being felt in the old building.

Clementines have recently added a stunning new speciality bar with a huge variety of whiskey, gin, vodka, brandy, red and white wine.

There is also a covered Gazebo outside with stunning views of the mountain.

These many milestones add to the ambience and charm of this quaint and popular restaurant in 'The Jewel of the Free State".

Clementine

Clementine is a rescued cat which Shelley and the Clementine patrons have adopted.

Clementine is a special cat in the sense that she raises money for the Cluny Animal Trust. The Cluny Animal Trust is a local, non-profit, organization.

People may sometimes be a bit antagonized by a cat in a restaurant environment but Clementine is clean and has impeccable manners.

You can support the Cluny Animal Trust and help other animals like Clementine. All you have to do is ask "how?" at the restaurant.
